constancia de este importante servicio de las comunicaciones, el cual se limitaba a la salida y llegada del barco a la Isla, una vez por semana.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sabemos que Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed llevaba cada dos d\u00edas en la calesa de la familia Sard\u00e1, desde la finca El Abra hasta Nueva Gerona, las cartas que le escrib\u00eda a su madre. En ese tiempo la oficina de correo se encontraba en la Avenida de Vives y la calle de Isabel II (hoy en 37 y 30), frente al antiguo ayuntamiento de la ciudad (hoy Museo Municipal). Eran los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os del siglo XIX.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Desde la llegada de los colonos norteamericanos al principio del siglo XX, comenzaron a desarrollarse las comunicaciones, las mar\u00edtimas, las telegr\u00e1ficas y las de correos. En cada lugar donde se cre\u00f3 un nuevo poblado por los colonos, se levant\u00f3 una oficina de correo, debido al incremento de la demanda dada por la necesidad de mantener relaciones con las familias y amigos lejanos. Por lo que se instalaron oficinas en los poblados de Columbia, Mc Kinley, Santa B\u00e1rbara, Los Indios y San Pedro, a su vez se mejoraron las instalaciones creadas con anterioridad en Santa Fe y Nueva Gerona.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Era la \u00e9poca que no exist\u00edan a\u00fan los carteros, por lo que los destinatarios y remitentes en la Isla ten\u00edan que presentarse personalmente en dichas oficinas a recoger o depositar dichas correspondencias. No es hasta 1930, que surgieron dichos empleados para llevar a destino las mismas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>En 1935, la Oficina de Correos en Nueva Gerona se encontraba en la calle Benito Ortiz, entre las calles Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed y Libertad (hoy calle 24, entre 39 y 41); y en Santa Fe, en una antigua construcci\u00f3n, donde est\u00e1 hoy d\u00eda la oficina actual.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Posteriormente, y hasta los primeros a\u00f1os de la d\u00e9cada del 50, permaneci\u00f3 en la calle 22, entre 39 y 41, junto a donde se encuentra hoy el restaurante El Corderito.Durante los primeros a\u00f1os de la d\u00e9cada del 50, la Oficina de Correos de Nueva Gerona, estuvo ubicada en la Oficina de Telegraf\u00eda, radicada en la calle Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed, entre las calles San Manuel y Antonio Guiteras (hoy calle 39, entre 18 y 20). Durante la etapa de la Zona Franca, en este lugar , se construy\u00f3 un moderno edificio, donde radic\u00f3 la Zona Fiscal de Isla de Pinos. El lugar, despu\u00e9s de 1959, fue destinado para instalar la Oficina de Correos de Nueva Gerona, y que hoy d\u00eda contin\u00faa ejerciendo la misma funci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A partir de 1967, con la llegada de miles de j\u00f3venes para laborar en los principales proyectos de desarrollo, aumenta la necesidad de este servicio. Se instalaron nuevas oficinas para garantizar la demanda de este servicio en La Demajag\u00fca (Santa B\u00e1rbara); Argelia Libre; La Victoria; La Reforma; Cocodrilo; un nuevo local en Santa Fe; y dos m\u00e1s en Nueva Gerona, en los repartos de Abel Santamar\u00eda y Micro 70. \u00daltimamente se ha ampliado el servicio postal al crecer la poblaci\u00f3n y construirse nuevos repartos y en ellos nuevos locales, como el Sierra Caballo, Juan Delio Chac\u00f3n, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Las funciones y responsabilidades que ejerce la Administraci\u00f3n Postal, supeditada al Ministerio de la Inform\u00e1tica y las Comunicaciones, garantiza la fiabilidad, estabilidad y seguridad de sus diferentes servicios, como: la distribuci\u00f3n y recogidas de cartas, mensajer\u00eda internacional DHL Express, aerogramas, telegramas nacionales e internacionales, giros postales, tarjetas y bultos postales, servicios de certificaci\u00f3n, venta de sellos, postales y sellos del timbre, distribuci\u00f3n y comercializaci\u00f3n de la prensa escrita, cobro de la Reforma Urbana, gas licuado, c\u00edrculos infantiles, electricidad, derechos de aduana, tel\u00e9fonos, multas y diferentes pagos sociales.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, presta servicios acordes a las nuevas tecnolog\u00edas, como: correos digitales, direcciones y mensajes electr\u00f3nicos, navegaci\u00f3n, etc.;
